21-year old man has been arrested for the murder of a landlord in the Itire area of Lagos following a street brawl.

Following the fight that broke out amongst hoodlums on Olorogun Street, Odo Eran, in the Itire area of Lagos State on Tuesday,  a 21-year-old stabbed a landlord, identified as Alawu Lateef, to death.

Lateef, who was a father of three, had intervened in the fight, and asked the hoodlums to leave the area, when one of them, identified as Lati Elepo, stabbed the landlord, Punch Metro gathered.

It was learnt that the father of three slumped, while residents arrested Elepo before he could escape with the other hoodlums. The matter was said to have been reported at the Itire Police Division.

A Punch correspondent learnt that the hoodlums, numbering six boys, had come from Osindero Street to meet one Balogun, who they claimed owed them about N30,000. It was learnt that when the hoodlums did not meet Balogun at home, they started to make trouble on the street.

The landlord, Lateef, who worked as a panel beater, was said to have asked Elepo to leave the area with his gang members. The hoodlum, however, stabbed him in the chest.

Friends and family members rushed the landlord to a private hospital in the area, from where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, where he was confirmed dead. His corpse was afterwards brought to the Itire division.

When Punch Metro visited the area, one of his neighbours, who identified himself simply as Rashidi, said Lateef did not have any business with the miscreants, but only tried to pacify them when Elepo stabbed him on the chest.

Rashidi added that Elepo and two other suspects were arrested by the police.

He said, “It was at about 11am when these boys from Osindero stormed our street. They are teenagers. They are not cultists. They said Balogun owed them N30,000 which they must collect from him.

“Lateef did not want such commotion on the street. So, he came out to caution them to take things calmly. The one who stabbed him was drunk.

“While Lateef spoke with them, the suspect went to a shop of an artisan who sharpens knives and other metals, grabbed about three knives and stabbed Lateef on the chest. Resident arrested him and dragged him to the police station while other hoodlums ran away.”

The landlord’s wife was said to be too distraught to talk with reporters as of the time of visit.

Policemen visited the street in the evening and raided other suspected hoodlums lurking in the area.

The incident occurred at Oduduru Road, Sapele, same street where a kidnap gang was said to have shot dead a young pastor, Great Oduduru, last week.

Rowan Atkinson is better known as 'Mr Bean', for his roles in the immensely popular comedy films of the same name, but his wife did not find his cheating funny and has sought to divorce him.
His 54 year-old wife has officially left him on the grounds of "unreasonable behaviour", after he struck up another relationship, this time with a former BBC make up artist who is half his age, Louise Ford
A court in the UK granted the couple a decree nisi, in a short hearing lasting less than a minute. They both failed to show up at the hearing.
Don't you just love the British and their Victorian 'modesty'? Leaving your wife of 24 years to go after awoman young enough to be your daughter is definitely unreasonable behaviour. Lol

Governor Akinwunmi  Ambode of Lagos State has warned motorcycle operators, popularly called Okada riders, commercial buses and street hawkers to repent from their recklessness or face the full wrath of the law.

The Governor said this on Friday, November 6, while addressing Government House Correspondents shortly after an emergency Security Council Meeting he chaired.

He noted that it has become obvious that traffic crimes and robbery are mostly as a result of the menace of Okada riders and street hawkers, as commercial buses have also become lawless and reckless on the road. He read the riot act to the drivers and gave them a stern warning to operate within the confines of the law.

Ambode stated that, in line with the commitment of his administration to ensure security of lives and property as well as the enforcing of the Rule of Law, the Council made strong decisions to check the excesses of notorious elements in the state.

He said he has ordered the full enforcement of the Lagos Road Traffic Laws, especially as it concerns the restriction of okada and tricycle operations.

However, according to the Schedule II of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law 2012, Okada, tricycle (Keke Marwa), carts and wheel barrows are restricted on some routes including Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Oworonshoki-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos-Ikorodu Expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and Third Mainland Bridge.

Others routes include Eti-Osa/Lekki –Epe Expressway, Lagos –Badagry Expressway, Funsho Williams Avenue, Agege Motor Road and Eti-Osa/Lekki Coastal Road.

Ambode said, “Any person who fails to comply with any of the provisions of this section commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction as stipulated in the law.

“Henceforth, all commercial vehicles, except Rapid Transport buses, must use only the service lanes in accordance with existing traffic laws. All conductors of Commercial buses must sit down in their buses and keep the doors closed at all times while in motion. It is against the Law for conductors to hang on the bus doors and leave the doors open. Any  contravention will be met with severe punitive measures.

“Commercial buses can only drop and pick passengers at officially designated bus stops henceforth. Any illegal and indiscriminate picking and dropping of passengers is against the law.

“Other road users who break traffic laws will pay a compulsory traffic fine in accordance with the law. Mobile Traffic courts are being introduced to prosecute offenders promptly.”

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has been slated to lead 60 bishops and 300 other clerics to the burial ceremony of the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu, HID, Awolowo.
This was as the Ogun State government disclosed that the federal government and all states of the federation will be at the event.

The family, at a news conference held at the Awolowo’s residence, stressed that body of the late matriarch would be taken to Ibadan, Lagos and Sagamu.
Daughter of the deceased, who used to be Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mrs. Olatokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, said the family is set to host friends, well-wishers and the entire nation to a befitting ceremony.

According to her, “Her burial is not for our family alone, but for the world. It is going to be an elaborate event. The state government has been very helpful.”

Also speaking, Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeolu, said the other 35 state governors have indicated willingness to participate in the burial programme, adding that the federal government is part of the central planning committee.

Apparently, being a mother is the major reason why ‘Hello’ hitmaker Adele returned to music.

She revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine: ‘I don’t know if I would’ve come back had I not had my kid. I’m very proud of what I achieved. And I wasn’t, before I had Angelo. I didn’t understand, actually, what I had achieved and how far I had come. Because everyone wants to do something with their life, and we don’t all get the opportunity because s**t gets in the way’.

‘When I had him, it made everything all right, and I trusted everything because the world had given me this miracle, you know, so I became a bit of a hippie, an Earth mother’ she said.

The singer has three-year-old son Angelo with long-term partner Simon Konecki.

While we anticipate her new album ‘25’ to drop on Novermber 20, her comeback track is now the fastest selling single of 2015, and the video on YouTube emerged as the most viewed in 24 hours, with over 24 million views .
