Gold Coast woman Tara Brown has died in hospital after being violently beaten, allegedly by her former partner, while trapped in her crashed car.
Ms Brown, 24, suffered critical head injuries in the incident on Tuesday morning and died late on Wednesday after her life support was turned off.
Her former partner, ex-Bandidos bikie gang member Lionel Patea, has now been charged with her murder, as well as several other offences.
It's been revealed Ms Brown last week had sought help from police to leave Patea.
News Corp papers said officers at the Southport station told her there was nothing they could do.
That advice is now being investigated by the police service's ethical standards command.
Patea is in hospital after suffering self-inflicted stab wounds prior to his arrest on Tuesday, and will appear at Southport Magistrates Court next month.
The incident happened after Ms Brown dropped the couple's young daughter off at child care.
Police allege Patea ran Ms Brown's car off the road and into the front yard of a Molendinar house, then used a cast-iron fire hydrant cover to bash her repeatedly in the face while she was trapped in the damaged vehicle.
Bystanders then intervened, when it is alleged Patea stole a ute and fled the scene.
One friend, Sasha Mahuika, on Wednesday described Ms Brown as a great mother.
"She's a beautiful girl ... a great mother. Humble, kind, just a real cool girl," Ms Mahuika said.
